Important: this guide supports preparation and comparison. It cannot inspect a vehicle, confirm safety or diagnose a fault.

Make the situation safe

Prioritise people, traffic and location. Follow current highway and emergency guidance and do not attempt unsafe roadside work.

Describe the location

Share the road, direction, junction, landmark or site entrance. A map pin can support, not replace, a clear description.

Describe the vehicle

Give the registration, type, warning messages, damage, wheel movement, keys and passenger needs. Some vehicles need specialist equipment.

Choose the destination

Confirm where the vehicle will go and ask about distance, waiting, storage and onward transport.

Record the handover

Photograph the vehicle when safe, remove valuables and keep recovery, key and destination records.

Your next step

Use the service hub to prepare the right vehicle details, understand fulfilment options and create a focused list of questions before contacting a provider.
